During the Classical period (1750-1820), the orchestra became more standardized in size and instrumentation. Composers such as Haydn, Mozart, and early Beethoven established the string section as the core, supplemented by woodwinds, brass, and percussion. The orchestra grew in size and began performing symphonies as standalone concert works, rather than just opera accompaniment.
